if a worker going from boston to washington d.c. can have so many more options for work or employment, our employees can have so many more options if their employees can make it a day commute. and so, we need to get started. there's been so much discussion on this committee with the stimulus package. i really have to question why it is that members of congress are so headstrong against high-speed rail in some corridors when it was their state legislature that one of the high-speed rail dollars and yet they reject the bad. i have to say in maryland we were particular beneficiaries when florida went through its own rejection phase. i'm grateful for that. i don't think it is particularly. and so i look forward to a discussion today about how we can get off the don. sometimes these great resistance to change that requires somebody to punch through its vision. i'm sure and i know this is true that over a period of time when the interstate highway system is being developed, their attorneys have said no, we don't want the highway. who does

over the revolving door in washington to play in the money game here in d.c. it's been said that politicians long ago sold out the american people for campaign cash this story just proves that point the hill newspaper reports that nearly a dozen newly elected members of congress have already set up super pacs keep in mind these ten people have not even been sworn into office yet that will happen next month but they already have super pacs in place to raise money. in the past super pacs have normally been used by senior members of congress and to influence and build alliances many super pacs donate to other lawmaker lawmakers campaigns in order or to the campaign of politicians back in their home states so what does this say about how washington works does this just prove that money runs the scouting. well lawmakers who haven't even been given keys to their offices are already raising money for the next election seems like the answer is yes meanwhile this country is headed for a fiscal cliff makes you wonder how can politicians worry about the nation's finances

the suggestion that somehow i was smarter today when i got up and flew up here just because i am in washington, d.c. i don't believe that. of course states can and should do it because some states may have a different attitude towards this in pennsylvania than texas. so you want to take into account many of these issues that are environmental issues and reassuring people locally about whether the procedures being used are safe and reliable. often local people can do a better job of explaining that or they may not want as much of it. they may want less. i thinks states have a right to be wrong in terms of competence. i just went through a hearing the other day on this meningitis outbreak that we had where people were taking these bad injections with unsterile stuff produced by a massachusetts compound and factory and it was the tennessee department of health that found out and they saved lives. the fda was not looking too good. but yes is the answer to the question. the epa and the federal government have delegated a lot of the responsibilities for clean air and water to the states. they can ha
